What is the main reason for your visit to the UK?
Select the main reason for your visit to the UK. EVW is only available for visits of up to six months. You will need to apply for a visa if you intend to stay in the UK for more than six months. The EVW scheme covers all types of visits for less than six months except those visiting for the purposes of marriage or to enter into a civil partnership, in which case they will need to apply for the appropriate visit visa. The Visiting the UK section describes the different categories of visitor, and what visitors in each category can and cannot do while they are in the UK.
Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW) holders can enter the UK with a valid EVW for the following purposes. This information is required for your EVW Application.
Business: A visitor may; attend meetings, conferences, seminars, interviews; give a one-off or short series of talks and speeches provided these are not organised as commercial events and will not make a profit for the organiser; negotiate and sign deals and contracts; attend trade fairs, for promotional work only, provided the visitor is not directly selling; carry out site visits and inspections; gather information for their employment overseas; be briefed on the requirements of a UK based customer, provided any work for the customer is done outside of the UK.
Tourism: A visitor may visit friends and family and or come to the UK for a holiday. A visitor may undertake incidental volunteering (i.e. the main purpose of the visit is not to volunteer), provided it lasts no more than 30 days in total and is for a charity that is registered with either the Charity Commission for England and Wales; the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland; or the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator.
Study: Visitors may carry out the following study; educational exchanges or visits with a UK state or independent school; or a maximum of 30 days study, provided that the main purpose of the visit is not to study: (i) recreational courses (not English language training); (ii) a short-course (which includes English language training) at an accredited institution.
Medical Care: An individual may receive private medical treatment provided they meet the additional eligibility requirements. An individual may act as an organ donor or be assessed as a potential organ donor to an identified recipient in the United Kingdom, provided they meet the additional eligibility requirements.
